Are training shoes good for fencing?
For the most part they would work fine if you are starting fencing but you might want to consider actual fencing shoes. Running shoes don’t conform to your foot shape as well and the soles are different so you the shoes might feel bulky and they might slide a little.

There are three weapons in modern fencing: foil, épée, and sabre. Each weapon has its own rules and strategies. Equipment needed includes at least 2 swords, a lamé (not for épée), a white jacket, underarm protector, two body and mask cords, knee high socks, glove and knickers.

Do they have to be white? Good news- the answer is not necessarily! The rules dictate that the socks must be the knee-length and cover the skin up to the fencing knickers lower line. They don’t regulate the color of socks at all.

What is the mask in fencing called?

Black was one of the hardest color to keep. Wearing it for training or even daily wear would mean you were rich enough to own many of them. Even eastern martial arts seemed to have preferred white before the 20th century.
