There is a reason why the past keeps coming back in painful memories. It’s because you’re stuck in one way of thinking. When we are down or anxious, for instance, we get stuck on thinking negatively. Because of neural networking, when we feel a specific way, we think about other times when we felt the same way.

Overthinking in this way is called rumination. While we worry about what might occur in the future, we ruminate about events that have already happened. My answer to that is by looking back to the past to what is called history, we can better understand the present and predict the future. With history we can track our origins and compare past patterns with present and future patterns. Modern technology teaches us new ways to do things.
